Hexbreaker 2 review

A successful game deserves a sequel and that’s just what has happened with ‘Hexbreaker’ from IGT. The first game proved to be a massive success for the company so it wasn’t too big a surprise when they went ahead and produced ‘Hexbreaker 2.’

I guess we’re all a bit superstitious aren’t we? Favourite numbers (heaven knows why because they still haven’t won me a lottery jackpot), not going under ladders, looking out for different coloured cats, it seems to be an endless list. Well, good and bad luck is the theme in this game and there are some great features here that will get you some good wins, fingers crossed, oops there I go again.

It might take a little while to get used to playing this game. That’s because it doesn’t have the usual reel design that you’re most likely used to playing. There are five reels, the first has three rows, the second four and the centre one has five with the top row symbol towering above all the others. Then it’s back to four reels and three for the final one. Having some free games might be handy to get you used to how this affects game play.

Also take a look at the Multi-Way Xtra wager system. Here you can get wins from left to right and right to left with adjacent matching symbols paying wins too.

All this gives you 720 different ways to win on each spin of the reels. Playing the game will cost you between £0.50 and £250, a good range that will suit all kinds of players.

The highest paying symbols in the base game are all associated with bad luck. There’s the black cat, the number 13, a broken mirror and the Hexbreaker logo. We also have the Jack to Ace playing card symbols, which from my experience of playing poker also bring their fair share of bad luck.

The wild symbol in this game simply says ‘Wild’, not the greatest of ideas there. This only appears on the second, third and fourth reels and can substitute for the majority of the other symbols. It can’t substitute for the Jinx scatter symbol or the horseshoe which is the bonus symbol here.

Just to ensure that you know exactly how the game runs, take a look through the paytable and the game rules. This will brief you fully about all the bonus features.

If you’re playing the game for a fair while or just can’t be bothered to keep pressing the spin button, sort out some autospins. You can set between ten and 50.

Bonus Games

In order to win some free spins, you need to get five of the lucky horseshoe symbols on consecutive reels. When this happens you’ll receive ten free spins to try and do some real damage with. During the free spins the symbols are different with some luckier ones in play. There’s a four-leaf clover, ladybird and white cat. You can get some good wins but note that the payouts for the symbols are slightly lower here.

If you can get five or more horseshoes during the free spins this will get more free games on their way. You can keep retriggering them all the way up to an impressive 260.

The spooky atmosphere in this game is created beautifully. I love the way the base game is centred around bad luck and the bonus games on the exact opposite. Those bonus games can get you some good wins so this is definitely one to add to your play list.
