Aztec Power review

Many a culture has been the basis for a slot game theme. Designers just seem to go round and round the world trying to find subjects for their games. Here it’s the Aztec culture that is the subject of this entertaining game from Novomatic. It also presents the player with some excellent chances of getting wins.

This is five-reel game that has a total of 25 paylines for you to try and win some cash on. You need three matching symbols to get wins here and they are paid from left to right only. Those 25 paylines are a fixed amount so the only decision you have is to work out your stake for each spin of the reels. Playing the game costs between £0.50 and £50, not a bad range to play with.

There’s certainly plenty for designers to play with when choosing an Aztec based game. There’s the treasure, the amazing pyramids they built (or was it aliens from outer space?) and some colourful scenes that can be used.

It’s important therefore that the symbols are impressive in a game with a theme like this and Novomatic have done a good job. Symbols in the game include a knife, an Aztec Priest (the top paying symbol with 5000x paid for five symbols), a headdress made out of feathers and a pyramid. We also get the ten to Ace playing card symbols which look colourful but don’t quite fit in with the theme of the game.

The wild symbol in this game is the gold locket and this can substitute for other symbols to get you winning combinations. It’s always handy when that happens and takes away some of the frustration when you’re just one symbol away from a decent win. There’s also a scatter symbol which is a golden pendant but this can’t be substituted for by the wild symbol due to its importance in triggering the bonus game as will be explained shortly.

To ensure that you know the rules of the game and how much each winning combination pays, take a look at the paytable. Then have some free games and see just what the game is like when the reels start to spin. This should prepare you fully for when you risk your real cash balance.

Bonus Game

Three or more of the scatter symbols will see you trigger the bonus round. This awards you 20 free spins and there’s a really important feature included here. The first active payline becomes the Power Line. With each of your free spins the multiplier is increased by one and you could end up with a 21x multiplier if your luck is really in.

There’s also a gamble feature in this game. It’s the usual routine of having to guess correctly the colour of the next card. Getting that right doubles your win and there’s no option of a quadruple prize here. Just be careful with the gamble feature as it can easily cost you some good wins. Just try it yourself with a pack of cards and see just how difficult it can be to keep on getting guesses right.

Conclusion

This is another entertaining game produced by Novomatic. The theme is a good one though hardly original. The symbols look good though and the accompanying soundtrack not too irritating. The bonus game is an interesting one and those multipliers can earn you some good wins. Be careful with the gamble feature though, you’re here to win prizes not give them back.
