Book of Ra Deluxe review

Novomatic had such a massive success with their ‘Book of Ra’ slot game that more had to be produced of this hit Egyptian game. Its theme was a massive hit and players found ‘Book of Ra’ to be one that looked and sounded great and with its special features gave players some very attractive wins.

What we have here though is essentially the same game but the deluxe version and that does produce some changes from the original ‘Book of Ra’ game. For example, the original had five reels, three rows of symbols and nine paylines. ‘Book of Ra Deluxe’ has the same number of reels and rows but there are ten paylines rather than nine. Not a massive change but perhaps that extra payline might be the one that gives you the big win you’re looking for.

The ten paylines aren’t a fixed amount. This means it’s your decision over how many to activate on each spin of the reels and the stake you are going to have on that spin. Simply work out a financial budget that you feel totally comfortable with and is money that you can afford to lose.

‘Book of Ra’ had a great look to it but the deluxe version is even better. The reels are transparent and that means we can see the hieroglyphics in the background. To the right and left of the reels are two massive columns again adorned with hieroglyphics. What they say I haven’t a clue but hopefully it’s nothing rude. To enhance the Ancient Egyptian theme even further we can see the pyramids in the background with a gorgeous sunset.

Symbols in the game include the archaeologist keen to discover the secrets of the pyramids and not get cursed in the process. There’s also a sarcophagus, a statue and a blue scarab. We also get the ten to Ace playing card symbols that are the low-value paying ones.

Again the Book of Ra finds itself on double duty as the wild and scatter symbol. It can substitute for other symbols to get you some good winning combinations. In its role as a scatter symbol it can help get you into the bonus game.

There’s also an autoplay feature in this game. You can set between one and 50 automated spins of the reels. This can be important if you fancy a bit of time away from the reels or just get fed up of continually having to press the spin button. Just remember that all the spins will be at the same stake so make sure you can afford the automated spins.

Make sure you know a great deal about the game before you start playing it. Access the paytable and then you’ll find out plenty of information about how the game runs. Also have some free games to see just what it’s like to play this slot.

Bonus Games

If you can get three or more of the Book of Ra scatter symbols anywhere on the reels then this gets you ten free spins. With the scatter being allowed to appear anywhere rather than on an activated payline, it means you don’t have to be activating all the paylines all the time to stand a chance of triggering the lucrative bonus game, really handy if your financial budget is struggling.

Before the free spins begin the Book or Ra will choose a symbol that will have the ability to expand and cover a whole reel during the free spins. That can really help get you some winning combinations.

There’s also a gamble feature here. Your task after a winning combination is to decide whether to take the win you’ve just had or gamble it. If you accept the gamble then you need to correctly guess the colour of the next card. The playing cards do have an Egyptian symbol on them. This isn’t easy of course and can just lose you a good win. It’s possible to successfully gamble five times but that really is a difficult task so be wary with this.

This is a posher version of the original game. It definitely looks better but there’s not much else changed to be honest. It is still a fantastic game to play and the possibility of getting some good wins are most definitely there especially in the bonus game.
