The game of darts has undergone many changes in recent years. The arrival of Barry Hearn revolutionized the game with the creation of the Professional Darts Council (PDC). The image of overweight players with beer bellies has been replaced by players with crazy haircuts, ludicrous nicknames and beautiful women escorting them to the stage as their entrance music plays. No sign of any intergalactic tournaments yet, but that’s what you get in this ‘Darts Heroes’ slot game.
This is darts like you have never seen before as Phil Taylor, Michael van Gerwen, Gary Anderson and Raymond van Barneveld, who have all won the PDC World title, battle each other in an intergalactic darts tournament. It’s a long way from the days of Fred Trueman and his pipe in the Indoor League (well worth googling).
I can’t honestly say that I’ve ever imagined a scenario in which darts was mixed with science fiction. You’re not going to see Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker battle it out on in a quick game of arrows, are you? Here though we see those four darts legends in some kind of futuristic arena and it’s definitely not the Ally Pally.
Just which player will become intergalactic darts champion but more important, how many wins will this slot bring you? It’s got five reels and there are 243 different ways to win. It manages to do that by paying out on matching symbols on adjacent reels. Playing the game will cost you between 0.40 and 40 credits, so finding a level to comfortably play at isn’t going to be a problem, certainly easier than getting a double 3.
This game has a low volatility which means there will be a fair number of small wins coming your way. Be patient though, even Phil Taylor didn’t win the world title right away. Symbols in the game include those four top darts players, the barrel of a dart, a Unicorn darts flight, one of those ‘180’ signs that the fans have in the audience, probably while dressed as Captain America, a dartboard and the ten to Ace playing cards.
As you are about to read, there are several features in this slot. Make sure you look through the paytable to find out more information including how much winning combinations pay. Have some free games to avoid any surprise revelations when playing for real.
Each of the four players have their own superpowers, it’s more like the X-Men or The Avengers than a few blokes chucking darts at a board. During the base game, there are special random features for each of the players and these can bring you some good wins. For example, with Raymond van Barneveld, or ‘Barnie’ as he’s commonly called, he can become wild (especially when missing a double for the title) and then expands vertically as a load of futuristic darts fly around. A bit like when I used to play darts in the kitchen when I was growing up. Who would have imagined our cat could move so fast?
The Phil Taylor Wild Feature again sees his symbol expand to random positions and that can increase your chance of getting some winning combinations. Gary Anderson is a two-time world champion and ‘The Flying Scotsman’ will have you steaming when like a rocket his symbol expands vertically and boosts winning opportunities. Finally, there’s Michael van Gerwen who reminds me more of Matt Lucas every time I see him. Rather than him looking like Matt, he becomes more like the Incredible Hulk, though I can’t say the thought of his shirt tearing open thrills me that much. Much better though is when his symbol expands to a 2×2 square, just watch the wins come along then.
These darts players don’t just have superpowers, they also have the ability to trigger some free spins for you. If one of the players ends up on the first, third and fifth reels at the end of a spin, you receive 20 free spins and an additional prize that can be as much as 200x your line bet when triggering the bonus. The free spins will be played out on a new set of reels, it all depends which player triggers the round as to what they look like. It’s also possible to re-trigger the free spins so this can be quite lucrative.
You might be thinking that there surely aren’t that many other games that turn the likes of Phil Taylor into a superhero. Well that’s true, but there are others out there that have a similar style of gameplay. For example, there’s ‘Magic Money’ from Novoline which also has 243 ways to win, a free spins round and expanding wilds. Also, try out ‘Grim Muerto’ from Play N Go and see how much you can win with in its bonus game as those wilds boost your winnings, again with just three symbols needed to trigger it.
A strange game for sure but one that is extremely entertaining to play. It’s a shame there’s no darts related bonus game but what we do have is lucrative enough to have you coming back to play this game time and time again.
