Dolphin’s Pearl review

What would a dolphin want with a pearl, it’s not as if they are going to start a jewellery business is it? Well, why you are trying to work out the answer to that question, you can start playing this great slot game from Novomatic and if lady luck is on your side, then you might be able to buy a pearl of your own if the dolphin ever does open a shop up on the High Street.

Under the Sea

There seems to be a lot going on under the sea in this aquatic themed slot from Novomatic. Sadly, there’s nothing to see in the background, often with these under the sea themed games, the reels are transparent so we can see a few fish swimming around in the background. Not the case here though in this five-reel slot that has three rows of symbols and just the nine pay-lines. Those pay-lines aren’t fixed and you can play with either one, three, five, seven or all nine pay-lines. The cost of playing all nine pay-lines is a minimum of 0.45 and 90, a decent range and you should have few problems finding a comfortable level to play at.

The symbols in this game are a mixture of those that are theme-related and others that aren’t quite so fitting. We get to see a seahorse, skates, crabs, and some attractive looking fish (not sure they are, if it’s not cod, plaice, or fish fingers I’m a bit lost when it comes to fish). Then there are the nine to Ace playing card symbols, far too many and having some bubbles to the left and right doesn’t change that opinion.

Anyone for Oyster?

The wild symbol in this game is the dolphin and can substitute for other symbols to get you wins. It’s not possible for it to replace the scatter symbol which is the oyster pearl scatter symbol which helps get you into the bonus game. When the dolphin wild symbol does get you a winning combination, there’s some animation to cheer you up even more after your win.

This is an easy game to play with all the control buttons situated underneath the reels. That makes it simple to set your stake and how many pay-lines you want to activate. It’s also possible to set an autoplay and the automated spins continue until you press the stop button.

Before you start playing this game for real, do your best to find out as much as you can about it. That means accessing the paytable which is packed with all the information you need including details of how much each winning combination will pay out. For example, five of the wild symbols on an activated pay-line wins you 900x your line bet. Five crabs will get you 1500x your line bet and it’s 750x for five skate. The paytable also has details about the wild, scatter and bonus games. Have some free games too to see how everything pans out.

To get 15 free spins, you need to get three or more of the oyster pearl scatter symbols anywhere on the reels. They don’t have to be on an active pay-line so if you did go ahead and activate just the single one you still have a chance of getting into the bonus round. The good news is that when the free spins bonus round is triggered, any wins you get during the 15 free spins are tripled so this can be quite lucrative if luck is on your side and if the scatters turn up again allowing you to re-trigger the free spins.

During the base game, there’s a chance to improve the value of your winning combinations. That’s because this is another of the Novomatic slot games that has a gamble feature. You don’t have to play this at all, if you want just take your win and get ready for the next spin with that win totally safe. If you decide to go for the gamble, then it’s the playing card game again. Your task is to correctly choose the colour of the next card. A right choice doubles your win, a wrong choice means you lose that win. There are five opportunities available to keep doubling your win but that’s such a hard task. You do get shown previous results but this is all down to luck so be careful with it.

Similar Games to Dolphin’s Pearl

If you have a great time playing this slot there are some clones out there. Try ‘Karaoke Party’ from Microgaming that also provides players with the chance to get free spins with wins tripled. Also have a go at another Microgaming slot, ‘Thunderstruck’ which also has nine pay-lines a wild that appears on every reel and 15 free spins.

In Conclusion

Another entertaining slot game from Novomatic that gives its players some good chances to get wins. The choice of symbols could be a bit better and a background would have been nice too. In terms of gameplay, it’s a bit basic but the free spins can get that account balance rising, especially if being able to re-trigger them. Be careful with that gamble feature though.
