Fairy Queen review

I’m surprised anyone goes for a walk in a forest. If they were to keep a close eye on slot games being released, they’d get a bit worried. Mystical forests are a common theme in slot games and it seems you can’t move for fairies, pixies and animals with magical powers. No surprises, therefore, that in ‘Fairy Queen’ we have another forest that contains a lot more than trees. It’s another impressive release from Novomatic who keep on pumping out impressive slot games.

‘Fairy Queen’ has five reels and ten paylines on the three rows of symbols. You don’t have to be activating all those paylines on each spin of the gold-rimmed reels. It’s up to you to decide just how many of those ten paylines to play and the stake you place on them. Playing this slot costs between £0.01 and £100. There shouldn’t be any problems finding a level to safely play at.

I’ve been really impressed by the look of this game that really enhances its theme. Not a lot of green though, everything seems to be in a bit of a blue haze with plenty of fireflies to be seen.

The symbols really do have an impressive look to them and make this an even more attractive game to play. We get a tiny pink dragon, a purple mushroom, a red flower, a green tree monster I’d run a mile from and a rather happy looking elf who looks a bit Japanese to me. We also get the Nine to Ace playing card symbols and even they get in on the act and have a colourful and magic look to them. I’d prefer to see at least one less allowing us to see what else is lurking in this magical forest.

The wild symbol is the Fairy Queen, well it is her game and she’d probably turn you into a frog or toad if you upset her. She can wield her magic to substitute for other symbols and this can lead to you getting plenty of winning combinations to boost your balance. It’s not able to sub for the view of the forest which is the scatter symbol here and helps get you into the bonus round.

It’s always important to learn a lot about any slot game before starting to play it with real cash. Having some free games will help you and taking a good look through the paytable even more so. That has lots of information about the winning combinations, how much they pay and details about how the bonus games work.

Bonus Game

To get ten free spins you need to be able to get three of the scatter symbols anywhere on the reels. They don’t have to be on an activated payline to count. On each of the free spins one of the symbols expands and fills all the positions on that reel. This really gives you a good chance of getting some winning combinations to boost your account balance with a win almost guaranteed on each of the free spins.

The game also has a gamble feature and this becomes an option after you get a win during the base game. It gives you the chance to double the win you’ve just had. Now that sounds all good and well but the gamble feature also gives you the chance to lose what you’ve just won. All you have to do is correctly guess the colour of the next card, will it be red (hearts or diamonds) or black (clubs or spades). Get it right and you double your win, get it wrong and it’s gone forever. You don’t have to play this gamble feature so it’s best to be really careful with it. Perhaps gamble a small win but not big ones.

A game that really has an attractive look to it and that’s always good to see. The bonus game can be profitable thanks to the expanding symbols that crop up on each of the free spins. Try not to overdo that gamble feature.
