Let’s get the worst joke out of the way right at the start of this review. ‘Orca’ is a slot game from Novomatic that will see you having a whale of a time. It’s based on the killer whale and I have to admit I do get a bit nervous when anything has the word ‘killer’ in its title. No fears here though, as this is an online slot that can see you winning some great prizes thanks to its stacked symbols and free spins round.
This is a five-reel game that has four rather than three rows of attractive looking symbols. With four rows that means there is space for a grand total of 50 pay-lines. That’s not a fixed amount so if won’t cost you too much when gambling online. Playing as many pay-lines as possible is always a good idea though and the minimum cost of doing that is 0.50 and the most 100. Simply make sure you only stake amounts that you can afford to lose.
When playing ‘Orca’ at an online casino, it’s easy to set how your wager and how many pay-lines to activate. The control buttons often find themselves living underneath the reels but not in this game. As is common in many Novomatic slots, the spin button is halfway down the screen to the right of the reels. If you hold it down then the autospin feature comes into operation Right above it is a button that allows you to set your stake and access the paytable. More about the gamble feature later but when that comes into play, you need to click the button that comes up to the left of the reels.
The background to the reels of this free Orca slot shows an underwater scene with several kinds of different fish. There’s no sign of any killer whales though, perhaps if there was there wouldn’t be any fish around, well not live ones anyway. Symbols in this game include sea lions, penguins (not sure if this is geographically correct) and of course the Orca Killer Whale. The latter can appear in stacks of two and that can certainly help get you some wining combinations.
I’m not entirely sure why but when trying out this free Orca slot machine, the wild symbol is a Mayan mask. It substitutes for other symbols to get you some wins. It can’t replace everything though as it’s unable to sub for the Orca’s tail. That would make it far too easy to get into the bonus game.
If you can get three or more of the Orca’s tail scatter symbol anywhere on the reels, that triggers the game feature with ten free spins won. It’s possible to re-trigger those free spins but only once and just five more free spins will be added, so make the most of them. There are additional wild symbols added onto the reels during the free spins so the chances of getting wins are much higher.
Responsible gambling is very important and before you can start playing this game there is the Reality Check Interval feature. This allows you to set an interval of say ten minutes, after which the game is suspended and you are shown how you are getting on playing the game. You can then decide either to stop playing or carry on.
Have some free games of the Orca slot before you start playing this game with real cash. That way you can build up your knowledge of the slot and there won’t be any nasty little surprises when you start pumping some real cash into the game. Also look through the paytable to learn more about how the game runs, the multiplier for winning combinations and the rules for the bonus game and gamble feature.
When a winning combination comes along, there’s the chance to at least double it. All you have to do is decide what the colour of the next playing card is going to be. Make the right choice and you double that win and can have another four goes if you want. The downside is that a wrong guess loses all your win so best not use this too much.
