Are you prepared to go where no slot game player has boldly gone before? Yes, it’s Star Trek time and the sci-fi show that started nearly 50 years ago (though still not as old as Doctor Who) is the feature of this excellent slot from WMS Gaming.
‘Star Trek: Red Alert’ has one big bonus and that’s the fact that it includes images from the classic TV series. That means we get to see old favourites such as Kirk and Spock which is always excellent when it comes to games based on TV shows/films.
This is a five-reel game with three rows and 25 paylines. The reels are transparent so behind them you can see that you’re travelling through space. Those 25 paylines are fixed so the only decision you have is to decide how much you’re going to be betting on each of those paylines. This bet range goes from £0.01 to £3 and in addition to that line bet, there’s also a feature bet that has to be paid which is 10x your line bet. This means total minimum cost per spin is £0.35 and the maximum £105. Just go for a level that you feel comfortable with and can afford to lose. There are two ways of setting your stake, either use the classic panel or the quickbet panel.
Symbols are all Star Trek related and include such legendary characters as Kirk, Spock, McCoy and a Klingon. Also there’s the Enterprise, a phaser, a communicator, a tricorder and the rank insignias.
The wild symbol in this game is the Star Trek logo and this can substitute for other symbols in the game. This can help see winning combinations materialise out of nowhere or should that be beamed up? It can’t substitute for the feature symbol.
It’s easy to play this game with all the control buttons down the bottom of the screen. You can also set an autoplay feature. With so many bonus features a good look through the paytable and rules is highly advised. Having some free plays is definitely recommended in order to get used to playing the game before risking your real cash balance.
You’ll be glad to read there are several bonus games in this slot. Let’s start with the Win Warp which is a random award that comes any time after you’ve just managed a winning combination. There’s four possible bonus features that can come into play. There’s the Rock Wild in which a rock creature suddenly appears and dump a multiplying wild onto the reels. Scotty’s Wild (the engines must be playing up again) and he makes one or two reels totally wild. Now Spock doesn’t get wild of course but he does have a Multiplier and he’ll multiply your win by anything between 3x and 10x. Finally, there’s the Enterprise Fly By, here the Enterprise flies across the screen and changes the symbols that made the winning combination turn into main character symbols.
At the top of the screen more episodes are available but you need to collect 50 Star Trek medals. These are awarded every time the feature is triggered. It’ll take a bit of time to build up your collection but your account will save your progress each time you come back to play the game.
The Red Alert Bonus Game is triggered when three of more of the feature symbols end up anywhere on the reels. This awards you unlimited free spins and each time you get a win the Enterprise will blow up an enemy ship and a multiplier is revealed for the prize you’ve just won. You start off the free spins round with five shields, each spin without a win removes one of those (you can be really dramatic and shout out ‘shields down to 80% etc.). When all of your shields are gone you have to select one of two communication channels.
There’s three options here, either Spin Till You win in which the reels are spun again until a last winning combination is formed. Then there’s Shields to Full in which the five shields are recharged and the feature starts all over again. Finally, there’s the No Extra Spin which ends the bonus game.
There’s certainly plenty on offer in this game which is always good to see. Star Trek fans might want to see a few more classic characters used but the big three are there so no complaints as far as I’m concerned. This is definitely recommended so don’t you dare try to beam me up while I’m playing this.If you’re looking for something similar, why not try out Stargate.
